Meet Our Oldest Climber (Male)

Climbing to the top of our lighthouse is a family event with children as young as 9 and adults in their 80’s 90’s able to make the climb. In fact, we would like you to meet our oldest climber.

2016 – Bob relaxing after the climb @ 90 years Young with his youngest great grandchild.

Bob Dick of Grove City PA came to visit us in July of 2012 and wanted to be the oldest person to climb our lighthouse, he was 86. Unfortunately, we had a gentleman from our local area that has climbed the tower for several years and was 87 and 2 weeks at his last visit. Bob just happened to have a $2 bill with him that July morning and signed and dated it for us and said “Here, keep this and I will be back next year to sign it and climb again to set the record”. Well sure enough, on July 11, 2013 Bob returned with several members of his family and made the trip back up the 131 steps to the top of the lighthouse. He was born in December of 1925. Bob is now the oldest person to climb at 87 years and 7 months  2014 update = 88 years and 7 months 2015 update = 89 years and 7 months 2016 UPDATE – Bob completed the climb on July 12, 2016 to climb at 90 years, 7 months and 1 day – Congratulations Bob!  Bob has kept his annual tradition alive with his latest visit and climb to the top (#5) on July 12th, 2016 to extend his record as the oldest climber. His support group of family members that also climbed and several more on the ground, ensured Bob had a fun and safe climb with many great memories.

We all can’t wait to see him again next year when he sets a new record of 91 years young. See pictures below.

CONGRATULATIONS BOB!
